blast from the past

I'm not going to be around this weekend, so I leave you with these pictures -- they can be found in your local Target.  The clock especially brought back memories.... "it stops short/ never to go again/ when the old man died."

I had all three of those toys as a kid. I also had a doll--yes doll--called Dapper Dan that was meant to teach little boys how to dress themselves. At the age of five or so, I took it apart to see what made it "talk," and my mom who'd bought it as a birthday present was none too pleased.

I see these being bought by old farts like me as souvenirs of their toddlerhood almost as much as those buying for their own offspring.

Kicker is, how many families today have corded dial phones, televisions with knobs and wind-up clocks? There's no connection for the kid between his/her toys and the grown-up world.
